In politics, there is support, and there is intensity of support.
And heading into the 2012 election year, Republicans are ahead in the
potentially crucial quest for intensity.
Support is simply an
indicator of which candidate a voter prefers to win an election.
Intensity is an indicator of how badly that voter wants the preferred
outcome. It's a rough measure, but an important one, of how likely a
voter is to actually show up on Election Day to cast a ballot.
