While America's laws on same-sex marriage are clear, either
prohibiting or permitting them, the attitudes of people of faith in
America and the religious laws and principles they follow vary in
support or opposition, in large part because of varying degrees of
devotion and adherence to faith pronouncements and scriptural
interpretations.
As for the most recent of
these laws, New York's Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law June 24,
2011, a measure to allow same-sex couples to begin marrying in New York
by July 24. That same day, opposition groups are planning rallies to
push for an amendment to the state constitution that would outlaw
same-sex marriage.
