In the way that religious communities have their commemorative celebrations -- Christian Easter, Jewish Passover, the Eid ul Fitr among Muslims -- some people have Charles Darwin's birthday as an occasion to celebrate, and it's happening again today at the University of New Orleans.

It's a little late here. Around the country, small groups typically gather to honor the 19th century founder of evolutionary theory closer to his Feb. 12 birthday.
