The Archbishop of Canterbury was warned yesterday to leave politics to the politicians, after issuing a bleak Christmas message depicting a society of broken bonds and abused trust.

Dr Rowan Williams went head-tohead with the Prime Minister in a sermon in which he described a Britain scarred as a result of the summer riots and the financial crisis.
