The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago religious order has learned the hard way that there is not much of a market for $1 million condos aimed at retirees.
A charitable arm of the Roman Catholic institution said Thursday that it has defaulted on bonds issued to finance the Clare at Water Tower, a 53-story high-rise that opened in December 2008 on Loyola University Chicago's Gold Coast campus.
