Religious extremists often frighten me, offend me, disgust me. But in terms of provoking irritation, none compare to the militantly godless.

Islamists, Pentecostals and Chassidim can at least claim to be following divine commands (as they hear them). But self-righetous atheists — I’m talking about the won’t-shut-up-about-it, dinner-party-ruining kind — have no such excuse. They annoy the rest of us on no authority except their own.
