As Mardi Tindal listed off the reasons she thinks churches should be
involved in political activity and influencing public policy, I could
see what she was getting at. The head of the United Church, which
Senator Nicole Eaton has criticized for delving into the political
realm, seemed to be speaking the language of commonsense when she
suggested that having a “living faith” must include taking action to try
to “make things better for people.”
Unfortunately, in the United Church’s case, taking such action has
included a proposed boycott of Israeli-made goods from the West Bank,
the Gaza strip and much of the Golan Heights.
