Some 3,200 young Britons
flew to Madrid last week for World Youth Day, a festival begun in 1985
by John Paul II. Shaped like a pilgrimage as a journey with a spiritual
purpose, and with a carnival feel, World Youth Day offers young
Catholics the chance to meet with the Pope, and each other.
"There are people here
from all over the world," said Ashishi da Fonseca, 18, one of a group of
300 from his parish in Mumbai. "It's amazing."
