With Toronto’s Jews routinely identified as one of the city’s most
victimized racial or ethnic groups, the Centre for Israel and Jewish
Affairs plans to form a bold new citizen security system aimed at
curtailing hate crimes in the community.
Called the Community Security Network,
the pilot project will train at least 25 unarmed volunteers with
observational and counter-surveillance techniques to mitigate terrorism
threats and vandalism to area synagogues, schools and community centres.
