WORCESTER — The five Republican candidates for the 3rd Congressional District were the latest to sound off yesterday on a controversial proposal to build a mosque and Islamic community center close to the site of the Sept. 11 attacks.

All of the candidates, who are vying for the party nomination to run against U.S. Rep. James P. McGovern, D-Worcester, said they oppose construction of an Islamic center, including a prayer area, near ground zero in New York City.
