The latest Pew Research Center American Values Survey finds that the United States continues to be a highly religious nation. Two-thirds of the public (67%) agrees with each of a series of three religious statements, affirming that prayer is an important part of their daily life, that "we will all be called before God at the Judgment Day" and that they never doubt the existence of God. An article on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals' decision not to rehear arguments on the constitutionality of California's 2008 ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage cites several Pew Research Center polls. Among the surveys' findings, in 2004, Americans opposed same-sex marriage by a 60% to 31% margin, but today the public is about evenly split, with 47% in favor and 43% opposed. |
