Prayer and School Graduations
Spring is the season for school graduations, and graduation ceremonies play a prominent role in the national debate over the place of religion in public education. The Pew Forum has several resources exploring the place of religion in public education, including:
- An interview with constitutional law scholar Ira C. Lupu on school graduations, religion and the courts
- An in-depth examination of the legal issues surrounding the role of religion in public schools
- An analysis of the debate over whether or not phrases such as "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance or the national motto, "In God We Trust," constitute government endorsement of religion
- A news article about a recent Indiana district court ruling that challenges the constitutionality of student-led prayer at a high school graduation
