A new survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press finds that a majority of Americans (58%) say that homosexuality should be accepted, rather than discouraged, by society. However, the public is divided over same-sex marriage: 45% favor allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally while 46% are opposed.

ABC News Radio reports that British physicist Stephen Hawking says he does not believe in an afterlife. The article suggests Hawking is at odds with many Americans in this respect, citing the Pew Forum's U.S. Religious Landscape Survey, which found that 74% of Americans say they believe in heaven.
