How do governments and societies around the world impinge on religious beliefs and practices? The third in a series of Pew Forum reports on this topic finds that between mid-2009 and mid-2010, religious restrictions rose not only in countries that began the year with high or very high restrictions, such as Indonesia and Nigeria, but also in many countries that began with low or moderate restrictions, such as Switzerland and the United States. A January 2012 poll found that about two-thirds (68%) of Mormons say that the American people as a whole do not see Mormonism as a part of mainstream society.
