Politics in the Pulpit
A new survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press finds that among voters who attend religious services at least once or twice a month, 15% say information on political parties or candidates has been made available at their place of worship. This is similar to the number of voters who, following the 2008 campaign, said that political information had been provided at their place of worship (15%), but it is lower than the percentage who said this after the 2004 election (27%). A question of appearances: Obama will bypass Sikh temple on visit to India
The New York Times reports that President Barack Obama does not plan to visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the Sikh religion's holiest shrine, during his trip to India in early November. There is speculation that the site is not on Obama's itinerary because if he were seen wearing a head covering, as visitors to the temple must, it could perpetuate the false rumor that he is a Muslim. The article refers to a recent Pew Forum survey that found that nearly one-in-five Americans say Obama is a Muslim.
