Annual Pilgrimage to Mecca Underway
   
According to Islamic tradition, all Muslim adults are required to participate in the annual hajj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca at least once in their lifetimes unless they are physically or financially incapable of making the journey. This year, the multiple-day pilgrimage and associated rituals are going on now. According to the Pew Forum's recent report "The World's Muslims: Unity and Diversity," about one-in-ten Muslims (9%) have made the hajj, and the percentage declines with distance from Mecca. Catholics lean toward Dems, but moderates can swing elections
The Denver Post reports on a recent Pew Forum analysis that finds that most subgroups of American Catholics have reliably voted either Republican or Democratic. The only group of Catholics that has been divided in recent elections is white Catholics who identify as moderates.
